"For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him." - John 3:16-17
This is one of the most recognized passages in all of scripture, but one of our speakers at church on Sunday pointed out something to me that I never noticed before. That in those 2 verses only the world is mentioned 4 times ... 4 times. That statement grabbed my attention. As a Christian, how did I miss that. In a larger sense, what does that mean to me. The word "World" has 2 definitions 1) the earth together with all its countries, peoples, and natural features and 2) a region or group of countries. My ability to impact the world is small. I live in a small town in Southwest Georgia. What can I do? What is my calling? Then it hit me, my calling is to my community. It is my world. I am merely one ripple the pond; my actions and words have a larger impact to those around me. It is like Mother Willow said in Pocahontas, Ripples "so small at first, then look how they grow. But someone has to start them." I must be called to start them. Showcasing the love of Jesus right here in my own community, I can impact my world, by be welcoming, giving, going, and praying.
